The second is the "predictable" first contact — the ball reaching the setter's zone but at a slightly angled trajectory, forcing the setter to choose one of two options rather than having all three.

My charting showed that the second group produced higher attack efficiency than the first when facing a strong double block. The reason lies on the other side of the net.
